Improv is about more than just being funny — it's about thinking on your feet, active listening, and trusting yourself in the moment. Over the course of 8 weeks, you'll learn to do just that — with Boldness. The class is designed around the fundamentals of short-form improv that keep scenes alive: spatial awareness, character work, and the "yes-and" mindset that makes collaboration work. These principles not only build real-world skills; they help to foster your experience in the present moment, so you leave each class with more confidence than you walked in with. The course culminates in a showcase performance for friends, family, and members of the Taylor Community Center. This Powerhouse opportunity is great for beginners, improv-veterans, or anyone looking to try something new!

Amanda Wagner is a New Hampshire based actor with extensive experience in improvisation. She has studied improv at both The Groundlings and Second City in Los Angeles, was an actor in the Shakespearean improv troupe ‘Shakes on the Rocks’, and has experience in script development through improv because of her time with Occidental Children’s Theater. She is excited to share her love of improv with the Powerhouse family. With this workshop Amanda hopes to demystify the artform and show that anyone can do improv if they just have the courage to say YES.
Alex Palmer: Born and raised in the smallest state with the longest name, Alex comes from a long line of story-tellers and comedians. While other kids played at parties, he had his head in his hands listening to his mother and her many siblings share stories, tell jokes, and blatantly roast each other. Well, inspired by such stories, Alex ventured to make a life worth living for himself, so he got over being depressed and poor and joined the Marine Corps! After living a life of daring for five years at the ends of the earth, he found his way into an improv theatre for a class in DC... and another with the Improv Asylum in Boston... and FINALLY, he started getting the inkling that this was PRETTY cool, guys. So, when Powerhouse offered him the opportunity to teach improv classes and eventually form a troupe with his outstanding colleague, Amanda, Alex said, "Alright, alright, alrighttt..." and that's where that quote came from. (Not some nerd with a mustache in an 80's film or something).
